Order a Poem
To celebrate Miss Leong’s birthday, the girls and I went to Dempsey Hill to have brunch. There was a flea market there today and we spotted two cute poets from The Proletariat Poetry Factory who were churning out poems for customers based words they provide.

To order a poem, you write down your name and one word to inspire the poem. Then you wait for about 15 minutes for the poets to get their inspiration, down some beer, listen to music blaring away on their headphones and start to type the old-fashioned way on an ancient typewriter.
When you head back to collect your poem (carefully contained in an envelope with your name on it), you can choose to pay however much you want to the poet who wrote your poem.

All of us had a go at this novel service provided by people who love to play and work with words. It’s such a thrill to give them some words of your choice to work on, not knowing what they could and would come up with.
I was estatic to see literary art created through a traditional machine. It’s so simple yet refreshing and original. There is something wonderful about looking at the letters appearing on the paper. I loved touching the bumpy fonts and the way they look on a crisp piece of white paper.
I gave the poets the name of this blog – Tinted Glasses - to work on, and here’s what Daren, the cute poet with an equally cute chuckle came up with for me:
MENU
how have you caught my
eyes, my heart by surprise
how have you found me
and caught me by surprise
thought i try to run
i try to hide, run far from
you, you seem to be numb
you seem to be far
maybe that’s why i wear these tinted glasses, so
you’ll never find me, so I may
never see you hiding
behind your tinted glasses too

I got him to write two poems for me, inspired by the words Tinted Glasses and Hope. Paid $5 each. But of course the amount is entirely up to you. You can pay more if you like! Or less. Can’t put a price to art, or can you?
